Stephen Starr Events Becomes New Culinary Partner for the Clark Art Institute in the Berkshires

For Immediate Release

June 27, 2014
NEW YORK, NY—As part of the transformation of the Clark Art Institute, a new addition to the dining scene in the Berkshires will be unveiled when the Institute opens its new campus on July 4, 2014.  Stephen STARR Events, a division of the acclaimed STARR Restaurants, is the Clark’s new culinary partner, operating two new dining destinations in Williamstown and the surrounding Berkshires region.
A modern eatery, Café Seven will open in the new Visitor Center, designed by Tadao Ando Architect & Associates of Osaka, Japan. Additional design for Café Seven was provided by Kulapat Yantrasast of wHY Architecture in Culver City, California. The café’s name reflects the 7-shaped red granite wall, a highlight of the Clark Center’s architecture. A similar 7-shaped wall is also a central component of Ando’s first building on the Clark campus, the Lunder Center at Stone Hill.
To spearhead its culinary vision, Stephen STARR Events tapped Aimee Olexy, a major player in the farm-to-menu revolution and the visionary behind three highly renowned Starr restaurants in the Philadelphia area: Talula’s Garden, Talula’s Daily, and Talula’s Table. Olexy will bring creative, innovative, and artful menus to Café Seven that will reflect market-driven ingredients from local artisans and nearby farms that will change with seasonality. Additionally, elevated snack options include a signature granola blend and locally sourced honey and hand-selected cheeses. Indoor and terrace seating will be available; hours of operation are from 10 am to 5 pm, and until 7 pm on Fridays in July and August.
A simple yet refined lunch menu will also be available at the Stone Hill Café. Offering al fresco dining on the building’s terrace, Stone Hill Café provides one of the best views of the surrounding Taconic, Green Mountain, and Berkshire ranges, noted by Yankee magazine for “best outdoor museum dining with a view in New England.” STARR will also operate a coffee bar in the new reading room of the Manton Research Center, which will open in spring 2015.
“The team at Stephen STARR Events is thrilled to be a part of this very significant moment for the Clark,” said Simon Powles, president of Stephen STARR Events, “The bucolic setting, abundant local farms, and gorgeous facilities provide endless inspiration to our culinary team. We look forward to becoming part of the fabric of the Berkshires dining community.”
Aimee Olexy added, “Café Seven will be a true destination in itself. The lovely kitchen space allows us to provide scratch cooking and handmade food, which we are thrilled to bring to museum dining.”
